The 2023 Presidential election produced Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as Nigeria’s President-elect.
Through their Attorneys General, six states have come out to ask the Supreme Court to invalidate the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections. These states are: Adamawa, Bayelsa, Edo, Sokoto, Delta and Akwa Ibom.
The Supreme Court is being asked by the six states to invoke relevant provisions of the law to annul the poll on the grounds of alleged irregularities and malpractices.
The suit was filed pursuant to section 6 (6)14(3)153(2) and 252 of the 1999 Constitution and inherent jurisdiction of the Apex Court.
The states are pushing for the Supreme Court to make a declaration that the pronouncement of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner of the Saturday 25 February, 2023 Presidential election and President-elect based on that election by voided by the Apex Court.
