Greece Train Collision: Prime Minister asks for ‘forgiveness from victims’ relatives’

The Prime Minister of Greece has asked for “forgiveness” from the relatives of victims of the train mishap ahead of the rally by students and rail workers in the capital, Athens.

Via a message addressed to the country, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: “As prime minister, I owe it to everyone, but especially to the victims’ relatives, (to ask for) forgiveness.”

The collision between passenger and cargo trains ignited an extensive outrage throughout Greece.

Mitsotakis said in her message, “For the Greece of 2023, two trains heading in different directions cannot run on the same line and no one notice.”

Loved ones and relatives of those killed in the train collision which occurred on Tuesday were also expected to converge for a memorial on Sunday outside Larissa Station, Central Greece, close to the site of the mishap.
