President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has reacted to the defeat his country suffered in the hands of Spain on Tuesday night in Texas.
The Les Bleus were discomfited 0-2 by Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi final match on Tuesday in the US.
The French President confessed, it is “hard” to believe his side fell in the contest to a more lethal force. He posted on X: “Tonight’s defeat is hard to take”.
Prior to the showdown, Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, had welcomed France to the semi finals, and said, “May the best one win” – and the “best” team was the La Roja.
Macron hailed Spain for reaching the final, and patted the Les Bleus on the back for “carrying our colors with commitment”.
He however expressed optimism in the France team, saying, the Les Bleus “is young and full of promise”.
France and Spain will now play against the loser and winner (between England and Argentina) in the third place and final respectively.
In his post-match comments, President Macron posted: “Bravo to Spain for this qualification. Thank you to the Bleus for carrying our colors with commitment. Tonight’s defeat is hard to take, but this team is young and full of promise.”
Via X, PM Sanchez described Spain’s qualification to the World Cup 2026 final as “spectacular”.
He posted: “SPECTACULAR
“TO THE FINAL!
“Once again, @SEFutbol makes us dream. Come on, Spain!”
