Adesanya V Pereira: ‘Our illustrious son has done us proud’ – Governor Abiodun

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated Israel Adesanya on his triumph over Alex Pereira at the UFC 287 in Miami.

New Zealand fighter, Israel Adesanya, born in Lagos State, Nigeria, defeated Alex Pereira by knocking him out to reclaim the UFC middleweight championship belt.

After the fight, Adesanya said “revenge is sweet and I’ve got a sweet tooth”.

Governor Abiodun hailed Adesanya for his amazing achievement on the global stage, saying “Israel is an illustrious son of Nigeria and Ogun State who has continuously done us proud”.

He “commended him for his doggedness towards recapturing his belt”.

Governor Abiodun said: “I congratulate our very own UFC middleweight champion,

“I commend him for his tenacity, doggedness and resilience towards recapturing his belt and urge him not to lower his guard, so as to move a notch higher in his chosen sport.


“This Administration will continue to encourage sporting activities among teeming youths of the State.”
