With this outcome, Japan, who are the winners of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011, have reached the last eight of the tournament.
Japan took the lead in the 15th minute when Ingrid Engen converted Hinata Miyazawa’s cross into her own net.
However, five minutes later, Norway levelled through Guro Reiten’s header.
Risa Shimizu restored Japan’s lead in the 50th minute and Miyazawa sealed victory for the Asians in the 81st minute.
Hinata Miyazawa has now scored five goals so far in the tournament and has her eye on the Golden Boot.
Japan will face either United States of America (USA), who are defending champions, or Sweden in the quarter finals.
