DR Congo Conflict: Kagame and Costa agree on ‘need for effective de-escalation and resolution to lasting peace’

President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, disclosed, he had a “fruitful conversation” with Antonio Costa, President of the EU Council, on the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Kagame further disclosed, “we agreed on the need for effective de-escalation and a resolution to the conflict that prioritizes political dialogue and ensures lasting peace.”

The fighting in the eastern region of DRC has forced more than half a million people to flee their homes.

According to President Kagame: “Had a fruitful conversation with President of the EU Council António Costa @eucopresident, where we discussed the situation in DRC and agreed on the need for effective de-escalation and a resolution to the conflict that prioritizes political dialogue and ensures lasting peace. 


We stressed the need for all parties associated with finding a solution to be responsible and level-headed, even with the complexity of the problem. 


We also exchanged on the ongoing strong cooperation between the European Union and Rwanda across key sectors.”
