Riva, a four-year old Asian elephant, died while under general aesthetic following a routine diagnostic to check anomalies in her blood.
Sundara Hi Way, the mother of Riva, died in July in the facility after complications from an illness.
Jamie Christon, Chester Zoo Chief Executive, said: “It really is difficult to find the words – we’re so utterly heartbroken to have lost Riva.”
