The US President made the statement at the White House during the celebration of thirty (30) years since the signing of VAWA.

According to President Biden: “When I first wrote the Violence Against Women Act in 1990, my goal was to change the laws and culture, to provide more protection and support for survivors, and to create more accountability for perpetrators.

And that’s what happened.

“Since we passed the Violence Against Women Act, rates of domestic violence have dropped – between 1993 and 2022 annual rates fell by almost 70%.

Rapes and sexual assaults declined by 56%.

It matters.”

The US President added: “I’m proud to announce new significant actions under the Violence Against Women Act that expand on existing protections and tackle the next frontier of gender-based violence and abuse.

Because Kamala and I know the work never stops.”
