Manchester City newly appointed head coach, Enzo Maresca, has addressed the press for the first time since stepping into the role.
With just “three” managers in “almost 20 years”, the Italian professional football manager said, the “structure” at Etihad is “serious”, adding, they “understand” what it means to “give time for everything”.
According to Manchester City via X, the former Chelsea manager, at the interview, said, he feels “good and back at home”
Maresca’s tactical pattern is influenced by that of Spanish manager, Pep Guardiola, whom he served under as assistant manager at Manchester City.
He said: “I feel back home and very good. The feeling since day one has been brilliant, so I’m happy.”
The former Hellas Verona player described his appointment as City manager as a “privilege”, and tagged Guardiola as the “best coach in the world in the last 20 to 25 years”
Maresca, who managed Leicester City (2023 – 2024), said: “First of all, it’s a privilege because the reason why the club decides to go for me… I said many times, I consider Pep [Guardiola] the best coach in the world in the last 20 to 25 years. It’s a challenge, it’s nice and it’s a privilege… It’s a challenge to do the right things, for the club, the fans, for everyone.”
He said, he knows Manchester City “quite well”, adding, for years, he has become familiar with the “people from inside”
“I know quite well the organisation, I know the people from inside the club from years ago. The structure of the club and when a club has three manager in almost 20 years, it shows how serious this structure is and they understand to give time for everything”, Maresca said.
Enzo Maresca coached Chelsea from 2024 to 2026, and went on to guide the Blues to FIFA Club World Cup 2025 triumph. Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) 3-0 in the final on 13 July, 2025 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey, New York, United States (US).
The victory in the US was Chelsea’s second Club World Cup title and first under the new format.
