Italian Serie A outfit, Inter, have extended the contract of head coach, Cristian Chivu, for the next two (2) years; this deal keeps the Romanian pro football manager at San Siro until 2028.
A statement on the Club’s official website reads: “Cristian Chivu’s story is truly unique: it’s a story defined by passion and sacrifice, it’s a tale of memorable and defining moments. It’s a story entrenched in Nerazzurri colours, with the Club there at every stage of the coach’s life, as was the case when Chivu was appointed Inter head coach on 9 June 2025.
“He’s a coach who can read every moment, a master who has passed on the values of Inter passion, a tradition long carried forward by a group that has consistently raised the profile of the Nerazzurri colours over the years.”
Since his appointment, Chivu has guided the Nerazzurri for fifty-eight (58) matches in a pressure-filled season; he won a historic double which features the Serie A 2025/26 and Coppa Italia 2025/26; the Italian top flight win was Inter’s 21st Scudetto, and Coppa Italia the Club’s 10th.
These wins came from an Inter team revamped by Chivu, who also bagged the Serie A Coach Of The Season 2025/26.
The Statement also reads: “Triumphs and spectacular achievements, possible only for those who truly know what it means to have passion for Inter, a value that has defined the entire season and will once again guide Cristian Chivu until 2028.”
During his playing days, Chivu fielded for Inter as a defender (centre-back) for seven (7) years, from 2007 to 2014, and recorded more than 100 appearances for the Club.
With the Nerazzurri, Chivu won the Serie A three times (2009/08, 2008/09, 2009/10); two Coppa Italia (2009/10, 2010/11); two Supercoppa Italian (2008, 2009); one Uefa Champions League (2009/10); and one FIFA Club World Cup (2010).
