US Secret Service investigates reported gunfire at White House

The Secret Service of the United States (US) is investigating gunfire heard close to the White House in the morning of Easter Sunday.

Officers rushed following reports in the area around Lafayette Park in Washington DC and conducted a search of the Park, on the North side of the residence of the President, as well as, the surrounding area, the Secret Service said.

No report of injuries and no suspect was found, according to the Secret Service. The search for a possible vehicle and a person of interest has been launched.

A statement by the United States Secret Service posted on X by Anthony Guglielmi, Chief of Communications for the Service, reads: “Shortly after midnight on April 5, 2026, Secret Service Police Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of the Lafayette Park.

“A thorough search of the park and the surrounding area was conducted and no suspect was located. Secrets Service Police, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Park Police are actively seeking a possible vehicle and a person of interest.

“A heightened security pposture is in place.”
