Freiburg V Bayern Munich: Kane ‘unavailable’ after suffering ‘something in his ankle’

While featuring for his country, England, forward Harry Kane “felt something in his ankle” and remains uncertain for his side, Bayern Munich, when they lock horns with Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

In his pre-match presser, Bayern Munich head coach, Vincent Kompany, said, Kane’s situation will definitely have an “impact” on the showdown on Saturday.

Bayern Munich will travel to the Europa-Park Stadium for a Bundesliga 2025/26 match against Freiburg on Saturday 4 April, 2026 at 14:30 (WAT).

The Bavarians will be heading into the game as toppers of the League with seventy (70) points, while, Freiburg are 8th with thirty-seven (37) points, both from twenty-seven (27) encounters.

The former Burnley FC manager disclosed, the former Tottenham Hotspur star “won’t be available” against Freiburg, however, expressed optimism the Englishman will be fit for the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 quarter final first leg match against Spanish L La Liga giants, Real Madrid, on Tuesday.

Kompany described the clash against Real Madrid as “huge”, but, said, he is focused on the game against Freiburg.

The Belgian also disclosed, Senegalese striker, Nicolas Jackson, will not be fielded on Saturday after being “suspended”, but, Jamal Musial and Alphonso Davies, will both be in action for the visitors.

Kompany described Frenchman, Michael Olise, as “special” and compared him to former Manchester City midfield maestro, Kevin De Bruyne, who now plays for Italian Serie A side, SSC Napoli.

The former Belgium defender said, Freiburg are very “strong” on home turf, adding, they possess the players who can find the back of the net with “confidence”.

According to Bayern Munich’s X account, at his pre-Freiburg press conference, Kompany said:

On Kane’s availability for Freiburg…

“Harry trained well until Sunday, then he felt something in his ankle while with the national team. That will have an impact on tomorrow’s game – he won’t be available. Nevertheless, I’m positive about Tuesday. It’s not great, I’d like him to play against Freiburg, but as things stand today that won’t be possible.”

On the games against Freiburg and Real Madrid…

“The game against Real is huge – and as [SC Freiburg coach] Julian Schuster said: Celta Vigo is for Freiburg what Real are for us. But as a coach you have to make it clear that the priority is Freiburg.

“We’re still in all competitions, utilising the whole squad, and we’ll keep doing that. We’ll see tomorrow what decisions we make.”

On team selection for Freiburg game…

“It’s looking pretty good. Jackson is suspended and I’d like to have Harry back, but that’s not going to happen. Jamal and Phonzy are available, Ito built up some game time on international duty, Manu is back, Pavlo is back. We’ll see who can start – but the squad is roughly where it needs to be.”

On Michael Olise…

“His mindset is what makes him so special. As I’ve already said a few times: He’s a lad who works with great attention to detail. I’ve always compared him to Kevin de Bruyne – I always think I see that in him.

“I’m sure he’ll get even better and make Bayern even better in the future.”

On Freiburg…

“They’re a team with intensity who are very, very strong at home. They have players who are confident and score goals.

“I count this game as one of the difficult ones in the league. We’ll need a lot of strength and energy for this game!”
