Peter Obi, 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has sent his words of comfort to the Super Eagles after Nigeria failed to progress in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification following a loss to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Sunday.
The former Governor of Anambra State cheered the Super Eagles, do not allow this “moment break your spirit”.
Obi’s words are coming after the Leopards of Congo downed Nigeria 4-3 in a penalty shootout after finishing 1-1 following 120 minutes of play.
He acknowledged the “hard work and sacrifice” the Super Eagles “put in every match”, and said, the team should “stand, regroup, and rebuild with even greater discipline, focus, and preparedness”.
The outcome of the CAF Play-off on Sunday 16 November, 2025 in Morocco means DR Congo will head straight to the mini-intercontinental tournament where only two teams will eventually make it to Mexico, United States of America (USA) and Canada.
Via X, Obi wrote: “Our dear Super Eagles, I know how deeply yesterday’s outcome weighs on each of you. When you wear the green and white, you carry the heartbeat of the whole nation, and I acknowledge the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment you put into every match.
“But let this moment not break your spirit. Great teams are defined by their response to adversity. What matters now is how we stand, regroup, and rebuild with even greater discipline, focus, and preparedness. I am confident you can rise stronger.
“Do not let today overshadow the greatness of tomorrow. The Eagle never bows its head, it lifts its wings. Keep your heads high and stay committed.Nigeria believes in you, and together, we will soar again.
“Keep soaring Super Eagles.”
