‘Phenomenal Victory’ – Governor Otti congratulates D’Tigress on AfroBasket victory

Alex Otti, Executive Governor of Abia State, has congratulated D’Tigress following their victory in the 2025 AfroBasket in Cote D’Ivoire.

The Governor described Nigeria’s victory as “phenomenal”, givimg “special appreciation” to the players and the “exceptional” Coach, Rena Wakama, for her “leadership and tactical brilliance”.

Governor Otti wrote on X: “A resounding congratulations to D’TIGRESS of Nigeria on their phenomenal victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afro Basketball tournament, clinching the championship for a record fifth time in a row!

“Special appreciation goes to every player who gave their all on the court and to the exceptional coaching team ably led by Coach Rena Wakama, whose leadership and tactical brilliance inspired this historic triumph. Your hard work has once again elevated Nigerian basketball to continental glory.

“Bravo, champions!”

Nigeria defeated Mali 78-64 in the Afrobasket final on Sunday 3 August, 2025 in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire to emerge Champions of Africa for a record five (5) consecutive times; and seven (7) in total.
