Reno Omokri has come out to express his “support” for the change of street names in Lagos State by the State and Local Governments of the Southwestern State.
He said, the street names were changed to “preserve Lagos’s cultural and political identity”, adding, anyone who feels “distasteful” about the government’s actions should “consider other states and the FCT as options to Lagos”.
In the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Charly Boy Bus Stop was changed to Baddo Bus Stop, to honour rapper, Olamide Adedeji, AKA, Baddo, for his contributions in placing the name of the Local Council on the global map.
Reno Omokri wrote on X: “When people who have been welcomed into Lagos make statements like, ‘Lagos is a no man’s land’, they outrage the native residents, and force the indigenes to take action that shows that indeed, Lagos is their ancestral home.
“People should never go to a place, whether in Nigeria or abroad, and make statements that undermine and disrespect those who received them with open arms and hearts when they left their own heartland to a state brimming with opportunity.
“Sometimes, being too liberal can make recipients of your kindness liberate you of your rights.
“I support every action taken by the Lagos State Government and its Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas to preserve Lagos’s cultural and political identity.
“If these actions are distasteful to anyone, at least there are options. Nigeria has 35 other states and a Federal Capital Territory. People dissatisfied with how the government and people of Lagos choose to conduct their affairs can consider other states as options to Lagos.
“When you move to a place and expect the people of that place to adjust their culture to suit you, you have not relocated. You have invaded. And no people will accept an invasion without countering it.”
