What causes ‘deep inner suffering’

Head of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, has said, when a human person is lessened to “performance, consumption”, it “inevitably” brings about “deep inner suffering'”.

Via X, the Sovereign of the Vatican City State said, a lot of juveniles today are yoked under the “expectation to perform” or engulfed by an “exasperated competitiveness” that leads to “fear of not measuring up”.

Pope Leo XIV posted: “Deep inner suffering inevitably arises when the human person is reduced to performance, consumption, or a statistical datum.

“Many young people today live under the yoke of expectations to perform, immersed in an exasperated competitiveness that generates anxiety, fear of not measuring up, and disorientation.”

Way Out

The Pope said, the solution to “deep inner suffering” is realizing that one’s life has “value”; that one is “loved and called to” execute a “task” in the world, that is when “hope” comes.

He described the rising of hope as a “spiritual force” that keeps life, even when times are “most difficult”.

Pope Leo XIV posted: “However, when we discover that our life has value, that we are loved, awaited, and called to carry out a task in the world, then hope is born. This spiritual force sustains life, even in the most difficult moments.”

One of the culprits

The Bishop of Rome pointed finger at “digital networking”, saying, it “serves no purpose” in the lives of juveniles if it keeps them “disconnected from themselves”.

He opined “help” for juveniles in “rediscovering silence and ability to ask questions”.

Pope Leo XIV posted: “Connecting young people to digital networks serves no purpose if they remain disconnected from themselves, others, and their own interiority.

“We must help young people rediscover silence, reflection, the ability to ask questions, the depth of relationships, and openness to transcendence.

“To listen to the soul, we must lend an ear, because the soul’s voice is not a shout, but a whisper.”
