Largest garment factory in Africa to be established in Ogun State

Dapo Abiodun, Executive Governor of Ogun State, has “proudly” announced his government has entered a partnership with India-based multinational, Arise Integrated Industrial Platform (IIP), for the establishment of Africa’s largest garment factory in the State.

The garment factory, which is a “$2 billion investment” will be planted at the State’s Special Agro Processing Zone in the airport city.

As projected, the factory will possess the capacity to produce “about 350,000 tons of garment per year”, and create “employment for between 120,000 to 150,000 people”.

Governor Abiodun made known via X: “Our Government is proud to announce a major milestone in our drive for industrial and economic transformation, the partnership with Arise Integrated Industrial Platform (IIP), an India-based multinational, for the establishment of the largest garment factory in Africa, right here in our state.

“To ensure a smooth and timely takeoff, we have set up a project implementation team to work hand-in-hand with our partners in identifying key deliverables, setting timelines, and preparing adequately for the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for September this year.

“This $2 billion investment will be sited at our Special Agro Processing Zone in the airport city, positioning Ogun State as a continental hub for garment manufacturing.

“According to the projections, the factory will have the capacity to produce 100 tons of garments per hour, 1,000 tons per day, 40,000 tons per month, and about 350,000 tons per year, translating to approximately 4.4 million garments daily.

“It is expected to generate employment for between 120,000 to 150,000 people, both directly and indirectly, marking a significant boost to job creation and economic empowerment in our state.

“What excites us even more is the revival of cotton farming in Nigeria that this project will drive. Ogun State already grows the highest quality cotton in the country, and we have allocated an initial 10 hectares for this purpose.

“With strong grower associations and planned offtake agreements, our farmers will become a core part of the supply chain.

“We are immensely grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating the enabling environment that attracted this scale of investment, and we are confident that with this project, Ogun State will reclaim Nigeria’s pride of place in textile production across Africa.”
