‘If the UK fails to fix its broken welfare system, its economy could collapse’ – Kemi Badenoch

‘If the UK fails to fix its broken welfare system, its economy could collapse’ – Kemi Badenoch

Leader of the Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, said, “3,000 people sign up for sickness benefits every day.”

She said, the welfare system of the United Kingdom (UK) is “broken”, and if it is not fixed, it could lead to economy collapse.

According to a “forecast”, the UK will need to “spend £100bn a year on sickness and disability benefits alone”.

The Opposition Leader said, in the UK, “28 million” people are depending on “28 million” others for their survival; describing the situation as a “crisis”.

Kemi Badenoch said: “This is a crisis. We are becoming a welfare state with an economy attached.

“28 million people working to support 28 million others. If we don’t fix this, our economy could collapse.

“Only the @Conservatives believe in living within our means.”

She continued: “Our welfare system is fundamentally broken. It’s costing way too much.

“3,000 people sign up for sickness benefits every day. We’re forecast to spend £100bn a year on sickness and disability benefits alone. That’s one in every four pounds of income tax.

“Under Labour, people on these benefits could now get £2,500 MORE a year than someone on minimum wage. People who can work are being incentivised not to. Others pay their taxes and carry the load. This is not sustainable.

“It starts with a simple question:Who should the welfare system actually support? Not people who can work, but won’t. Not foreign nationals who’ve never paid into the system. Not state-funded cars for constipation or tennis elbow.”
