Amnesty International Nigeria has ordered the Nigerian authorities to “investigate all reported cases of mob violence” in the country.
The Human Rights Organization said, “citizens are bruttaly attacked or killed and the Nigerian government continues to turn a blind eye” as the “wave of mob violence grows”.
Amnesty International Nigeria said: “The Nigerian government continues to turn a blind eye to the growing wave of mob violence across the country, where citizens are brutally attacked, beaten, or killed without due process. A new Amnesty International report reveals how the affected including young people, women, and minority groups are denied justice, while perpetrators walk free.
“We demand that Nigerian authorities urgently investigate all mob violence cases, prosecute those responsible, and protect the right to life for all.”
Amnesty International Nigeria continued: “Say no to jungle justice. 92% of mob killings go unpunished.
“Nigerian authorities must:
Investigate all reported cases of mob violence
Prosecute perpetrators and complicit bystanders
Strengthen the capacity of law enforcement
Launch a nationwide public awareness campaign
Ensure protection for the affected and survivors
Establish community-level early warning mechanisms
Condemn mob violence at the highest levels”
