Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, announced, he convened the Incident Response Group today, Saturday 31 May, 2025 to address the fast-spreading wildfire situation across the North American country.
Carney said, the Canadian Armed Forces personnel have been mobilised to “support air evacuations” in the Province of Manitoba which is heavily hit by the wildfires.
More than twenty-five (25) fires are raging in Manitoba Province.
The Canadian PM said, “the scale and complexity of these air evacuations cannot be overstated — and neither can the unwavering dedication of the teams executing them.”
Already, thousands have evacuated western Canada, especially the central prairie provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, as firefighters tackle growing flames and hot, dry weather predictions in the coming days.
Thick smoke from the fires – of which there are more than 180, officials say – has spread across Canada and into parts of the United States (US).
PM Carney said: “I convened the Incident Response Group today to address the escalating wildfire situation across the country.
“We’ve mobilised Canadian Armed Forces personnel to support air evacuations in Manitoba — including in the community of the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation.
“The Government of Canada will be matching donations to the Red Cross for these areas, and we are working with provinces and Indigenous leaders to get impacted Canadians to safety.
“The scale and complexity of these air evacuations cannot be overstated — and neither can the unwavering dedication of the teams executing them.
“To everyone responding on the front lines of these wildfires: thank you. Canada stands ready to mobilise additional assistance wherever needed.”
