A 28-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly making threats against President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Mayor of Cape Town and a business official.
The man was arrested yesterday in Germiston in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. He is being moved to Cape Town where he is expected to face the local magistrate’s court on Monday on a charge of intimidation.
The Cape Town based Hawks’ CATS team Spokesperson, said: “The arrest on Friday, 23 May 2025, follows a case reported earlier this month. On Monday, 12 May 2025, a complainant, who is the Chief Executive Officer of a Cape Town based company, allegedly received a voice message from the suspect, in which threats were made against the President of South Africa. The suspect is also alleged to have sent multiple threatening messages targeting the complainant, her family, and the Executive Mayor of Cape Town.”
This is happening following President Ramaphosa’s working visit to the United States (US) for a meeting with President Donald Trump.
Ramaphosa’s trip to the US was to “reset and revitalise bilateral relations between South Africa and the United States.”
