President of France, Emmanuel Macron, disclosed, he spoke with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Keir Starmer, “as global economy reels from the shock of tariffs imposed by the United States”.
So many countries are affected by the new tariffs imposed on them by US President, Donald Trump.
The US President placed tariffs on goods coming into the country from countries like, China, Canada, the European Union (UN), Taiwan, Vietnam among others.
Trump had announced during his presidential campaign that, he will establish an External Revenue Service (ERS) to collect all tariffs from foreign sources.
The French President said, “a trade war is in no one’s interest. We must be united and determined together to protect our fellow citizens and our businesses”, adding, he alongside the UK PM “reaffirmed our commitment to closely coordinate our positions in the ongoing discussions with President Donald Trump”.
Macron said: “In these times of upheaval, one certainty: faced with the great tremors of the world, we must move forward together.
“I spoke today with the British Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer after having talked two days ago with President @vonderleyen.
“As the global economy reels from the shock of tariffs imposed by the United States, we reaffirmed our commitment to closely coordinate our positions in the ongoing discussions with President Donald Trump.
“A trade war is in no one’s interest. We must be united and determined together to protect our fellow citizens and our businesses.
“Following the trip to Kyiv by the chiefs of staff of the French and British armed forces, we took stock of the situation in Ukraine.
“With the Coalition of Volunteers for Ukraine, we are continuing to reflect on the long-term support we can provide to Ukrainians: first to their army, which is and will remain their first line of defense; then on a possible reassurance force positioned back from the contact line and present to deter any new Russian aggression.
“Finally, with the British Prime Minister, we discussed the main bilateral and European issues. Because in an unstable world, strong alliances are our best compass.”
In these times of upheaval, one certainty remains: in the face of the world’s great shocks, we must move forward together.
