Clean energy crucial step in climate change mitigation

Dr Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, has urged Nigerians to embrace and support the implementation of Clean Energy Innovations to solve climate change mitigation and adaptation in the country.

On Tuesday, the call was made by the Minister during the inauguration of the Project Steering Committee of Nigeria, UNIDO /GEF on promoting Clean Energy Technologies for sustainable Start-UPS and Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development in Nigeria.

He went on to clarify that the Clean Energy Technology is a project that would create the national platform for collaboration with the Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) being piloted by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) as well as Co-Creation Hub for providing niche technical services within the project.

He disclosed, the Ministry is presently carrying out an assessment of technology needs for the climate in key sectors of the economy of Nigeria in line with the global transition of world technology towards the consumption of clean energy.

Adeleke butressed on the production and addition of value to the abundant natural resources of the country which will bring about huge socio-economic development of Nigeria, also made known that the Steering Committee members are experts selected from the Private and Public Sectors of the economy and charged them to make significant contributions to the development of the country via this beautiful project.

He specified the membership of the steering committee to include the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Federal Ministry of Environment, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Bank of Industry, Rural Electrification Agency, amongst others.
