Despite a lack of goals, Saturday’s 242nd edition of one of English football’s best rivalries was certainly not left wanting for excitement, with Jordan Pickford in sensational form to seal a well-earned point for the hosts at Goodison Park.

The England goalkeeper produced several stunning saves, including many to thwart substitute Roberto Firmino, tipping the returning Darwin Nunez’s volley onto the crossbar and crucially getting fingertips to a last-gasp Mo Salah strike that hit the post.

Luis Diaz also rattled the woodwork for Liverpool, while Tom Davies hit the frame of the goal in the first half.

Conor Coady thought he had finally broken the deadlock after the interval as he finished off debutant Neal Maupay’s shot from close range, only for the Wolves loanee to see his first Everton goal ruled out for offside by the VAR. Standard
