Photos: Obi visits NAF facility, names of crew, passengers killed in aircraft crash

2027 Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, visited the facility of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Abuja on Tuesday 6 October, 2026 following the military aircraft crash that happened in Ondo State.

He visited the NAF facility to officially sign the condolence register following the air mishap.

Via X, Obi said, the visit handed him the “opportunity” to think deeply on the “sacrifices” these military men and women, alongside, other security agencies make as they discharge their duties.

He also said, these officers put their lives at risk to “protect” Nigerians and “defend” the country, and, urged the people not to take their sacrifices “for granted”.

Obi said: “The visit gave me another opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made daily by the men and women of our Armed Forces and other security agencies in the line of duty.

“These courageous Nigerians put their lives on the line to defend our nation and protect our people. We must never take their service and sacrifice for granted.”

The former Governor of Anambra State expressed his “deepest” condolences to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as well as, the families, colleagues, and loved ones of those who lost their lives.

Obi prayed: “May God grant eternal rest to the departed and give their families the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss.

“May God continue to protect all those who serve our country.”

Via a official Press Release, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) released the names of twenty-five (25) persons on board the NAF 931 that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

Expressing appreciation to condolences pouring in, NAF posted on X: “The Nigerian Air Force deeply appreciates the outpouring of sympathy, prayers and solidarity from Nigerians and well-wishers at home and abroad following the tragic accident involving NAF 931.

“Your compassion and support are a profound source of strength to the families, colleagues and loved ones of those who served our nation with honour, dedication and distinction, and whose sacrifice will forever be remembered.”

NAF 931 had five (5) crew members and twenty (20) passengers on board the ill-fated military aircraft.

According to the Press Release, “The aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred.”

The Crew member are:

  3. Flight Lieutenant IS Bako (Co-pilot)

  4. Warrant Officer Abubakar A (Aircraft Technician)

The Passengers are:

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS) has directed a “comprehensive” investigation to ascertain the “circumstances” that led to the crash.
