Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich head coach, has given an update on Jamal Musiala after the Germany attacking midfielder collapsed in action during pre-season.
The Belgian manager said, Musiala is “doing well”. He revealed, the Club has been handling the “situation” even before it came to the knowledge of the public.
Musiala suffered successive on-field collapses during pre-season friendlies in August, 2026 due to treatable absence seizures connected to a neurological dysfunction.
At his pre-Schalke presser, the former Burnley manager said, he knows the Veltins-Arena Stadium, home ground of the Royal Blues, “well”, adding, the home side “can’t be hungrier than us”.
Kompany’s statement is coming after his side’s easy 4-1 victory over Osnabrück in the DFB Cup 2026/27 round 1 match on Wednesday 2 September, 2026 at Bremer Brücke in Osnabrück.
The Bavarians charged from behind to discomfit Osnabrück after the hosts had gone in front very early, in the 5th minute, through R. Meißner, but, England Captain, Harry Kane, levelled for the visitors in the 18th minute.
Tom Bischof, Michael Olise and Kane netted the second, third and fourth goals for Bayern in the 24th, 73rd and 86th (pen) minutes respectively.
Via Bayern Munich X account, Kompany said, a “decision” will be made on Musiala, however, it depends on how he responds during training.
On Saturday 5 September, 2026, Bayern Munich will take a trip to Gelsenkirchen City for a Bundesliga 2026/27 match against Schalke at 17:30 (WAT) at Veltins-Arena.
At his pre-match press conference, Kompany said:
On the showdown against Schalke…
“It’s a stadium that we and I know well. The club also has support in Belgium. We’re the favourites but can’t just believe it. It always starts from zero. You don’t automatically take good performances against Osnabrück and Stuttgart with you. They can’t be hungrier than us. They’ll be hugely excited after three years away.”
On Jamal Musiala…
“He’s had a good and full week of training. He’s doing well. We’ve already stated how we’ll handle him. Jamal is in a good spell. We’ve been dealing with the situation for longer than the public know. We’ll see in training today and will then make a decision that’s the best for Jamal and the team.”
On the squad…
“We’ll make a decision today about Jamal, depending on how he deals with training. Serge Gnabry won’t be involved yet this week. Hopefully next week. The main priority is that he feels good.”
Standings ahead of Saturday’s game
Currently, Bayern Munich, reigning Kings of Germany, are currently atop the Bundesliga 2026/27 table with three (3) points after breezing through VfB Stuttgart 5-1 in the opener last Friday at Allianz Arena.
While, Schalke are 16th in the standings with zero (0) point after losing their opener against Augsburg 3-0 last weekend.
