Obi urge Kano State govt to investigate k*lling of social media commentator

Peter Obi has come out to condemn the killing of Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, social media commentator.

Shagamu was killed “in his home in Kano”.

Via X, the former Governor of Anambra State expressed “deep sadness” after learning of the unfortunate occurrence, and reacted, “no disagreement” ever justifies the killing of a human being.

Obi said: “I am deeply saddened by the killing of social media commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, in his home in Kano.

“No disagreement, criticism, or neighbourhood dispute can ever justify the taking of a human life. Those who speak up, express their opinions, or hold different views must not be made to live in fear.”

The 2027 Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) called on the government of Kano State to make sure the killing of Shagamu is investigated “thoroughly and transparently”, and justice slammed on those responsible.

Obi said: “I urge the Kano State Government and the relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into this tragic incident and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.”

The Constitution of Nigeria “guarantees freedom of expression” for every Nigerian, and that right deserves to be “protected” for all.

Expressing his “heartfelt condolences” to his family, friends, colleagues, and followers, Obi prayed “eternal rest” for Shagamu, and “strength” for his loved ones to bear the “painful” loss.

Obi said: “Our Constitution guarantees every Nigerian the fundamental right to freedom of expression. That right must be protected for all, regardless of our differences.”

And prayed: “May Almighty God grant him eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength and comfort to bear this painful loss.”
