In its condolence, Spanish La Liga Giants, Real Madrid, expressed “deep regret” on the death of Franco Baresi, former AC Milan and Italy defender.
Real Madrid wrote on its official website, the entire Outfit “deeply regret” the passing of Baresi, who fielded for the Rossoneri all through his playing days, as well as, Italy.
Baresi, who died at the age of sixty-six (66), played “719” matches for AC Milan and cartes three (3) European Cups, six (6) Italian League titles, among other major honours.
In its official announcement, Real Madrid wrote: “Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences and affection to his family and loved ones, his teammates, and AC Milan, the club of his life.
“Franco Baresi’s career was marked by his dedication to a single club, AC Milan, as well as the Italian national team.”
The defender featured for Italy in three (3) World Cups, and was among the Blues that were named Kings of the World in 1982. The final of the World Cup in 1982 took place right inside the Santiago Bernabeu, home ground of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid further wrote: “With AC Milan, he played 719 matches and won 3 European Cups, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 6 Italian League titles, and 4 Italian Super Cups.
“With the Italian national team, he participated in three World Cups and was crowned world champion in the 1982 World Cup in Spain, during the unforgettable final at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.”
Baresi, widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time, was ranked 19th in World Soccer magazine’s list of the 100 greatest players of the 20th century.
Real Madrid concluded: “Franco Baresi has passed away at the age of 66. Rest in peace.”
