England 0-0 Ghana: Kane now third on all-time Three Lions men’s caps

England were unable to maintain their perfect start to the FIFA World Cup 2026 after being held by Ghana to a goalless draw in their second Group L match on Tuesday 23 June, 2026 at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, United States (US).

The Three Lions, guided by German pro football manager, Thomas Tuchel, were fully aware prior to the clash that a win against the Black Stars will plunge them straight to the round of 32, however, were stunned to a 0-0 draw by a stubborn Ghana.

England were in control for a large part of the match, however, were not able to record a shot on target until the 57th minute; the West African side also struck the England defense with counter-attacks, but, were unable to find the net.

Tuchel, former Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) manager, turned to Arsenal winger, Bukayo Saka, who is currently unable to play full time due an obstinate Achilles issue, and brought on Aston Villa attacking midfielder, Morgan Rogers, for Real Madrid midfielder, Jude Bellingham; a move made to force an opening in the Ghanaian defense.

Saka’s effort forced Benjamin Asare, goalkeeper of the Black Stars, to make a save, and Manchester City left-back, Nico O’Reilly’s header struck the bar.

Despite every tactic employed by Tuchel, the Three Lions failed to break through the rock hard defense of Ghana, and both sides ended up sharing the spoils.

After Captaining the Three Lions against the Black Stars in Boston, Bayern Munich forward, Harry Kane, has now emerged third on the list of the All-time England Men’s Caps after 116 appearances; this is historic for the goal machine, who was unable to rescue his side on Tuesday night.

After the outcome, Declan Rice encouraged his teammates to “stay positive and keep going”.

According to England Football official website, In his reaction following the draw, Arsenal midfielder, Declan Rice, said: “It’s always difficult when you play against 11 behind the ball, as deep as they were.

“You’ve got to find solutions. In the last 10 minutes, we found more than we did all game and we were probably unlucky not to score.

“Stay positive and keep going. We still have a great chance to top the group against Panama, so positivity all round.”

In one of the other matches on Tuesday, Portugal demolished Uzbekistan by a whopping five (5) goals to zero (0) with Al Nassr forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, netting a brace.
