Manchester United Dutch centre-back, Matthias De Ligt, has undergone successful surgery to correct a back injury.
Following intense work throughout his process of rehabilitation, it was decided that a “corrective procedure” was the best approach to the injury, the Club said in a statement.
The Dutchman, 26 years of age, has been excellent since the kick off of the 2025/26 season, fielding for the 20-time Premier League Champions in every minute of every top flight match until the end of November.
The Netherlands international was voted Manchester United Player Of The Month (POTM) for November by supporters.
The defender will now start a fresh phase of his recovery and is expected to make his return to action for Manchester United in the opening stages of the 2026/27 season.
De Ligt told the Club’s official website: “Since November I have done everything, pushing myself in every session and exploring every option, to get back to doing what I love, playing football.
“I am grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout a difficult period in my career. I remain as determined as ever to represent Manchester United and play in front of our incredible supporters as soon as possible.”
Matthijs De Ligt has been left out of the Netherlands team for the FIFA World Cup 2026 as he is expected to recovery ahead of the new campaign.
