Air India Plane Crash: 241 dead, only one survivor

An Air India aircarft bound for London crashed in a residential area of Ahmedabad just some minutes after takeoff on Thursday, 12 June , 2025, killing 241 people on board, the airline disclosed.

Only one passenger who was thrown from the plane survived.

At least five (5) medical students in a college hostel have been confirmed dead after the plane crashed into the building and exploded into flames, according to a medical association officer.

Vidhi Chaudhary, a high-ranking state police officer in the city in northwestern India, said: “Most of the bodies have been charred beyond recognition.”

Amit Shah, Indian Home Minister, confirmed that he has met the only survivor at the hospital. A doctor revealed, he had examined the survivor, whom he identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh.

Dr. Dhaval Gameti told AP News, “He was disoriented with multiple injuries all over his body, but, he seems to be out of danger.”

Another medic revealed, Ramesh told him that as soon as the plane took off, it started going down and suddenly broke in two, throwing him out before a loud explosion.

Black smoke rose from the site where the plane crashed near the airport in Ahmedabad, a big town of more than 5 million and the capital of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state.
