At yesterday’s State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting, important resolutions were made to drive progress across key sectors in Akwa Ibom State.

• Asset Management & Maintenance – EXCO resolved that the Office of the Secretary to the State Government will now supervise the Akwa Ibom State Infrastructure and Asset Management and Maintenance Agency to ensure effective documentation, management, and maintenance of government assets.

• Workplace Safety – EXCO approved the establishment of the Department of Occupational Safety in the State Public Service, to be headed by a Permanent Secretary under the Office of the Head of Civil Service. This department will enhance safety standards and ensure global best practices in the workplace.

• Land Use Regulation – After a review of complaints from oil-bearing communities, EXCO resolved that Sterling Petrochemicals and Fertilizer Limited must limit its operations to the 1,000 hectares allocated to them and respect the 700-hectare buffer zone. The Ministry of Lands has been mandated to ensure compliance and prevent further encroachment.

• Food Security – EXCO inaugurated the Akwa Ibom State Agriculture and Food Security Committee to drive food sufficiency under the ARISE Agenda. The eight-member committee, chaired by Prof. Okon Ansa, will develop data-driven strategies to improve food production and processing in the State.

Additionally, EXCO reviewed presentations from various ministries on their ongoing projects and strategies for improved service delivery.

Our administration remains focused on accountability, infrastructure development, food security, and the overall well-being of Akwa Ibomites.
