The Belgian’s statement is coming ahead of the top flight encounter between Mainz 05 and Bayern Munich on Saturday afternoon.
Bayern Munich will travel to MEWA Arena for the Bundesliga clash on Saturday 14 December, 2024 at 15:30 (WAT).
At his press conference ahead of the match, Kompany said:
On player availability…
“We got through the week quite well. Harry Kane will not return against Mainz, nor will the other injured players. The guys who played against Shakhtar Donetsk are available.
“I know a lot about injuries. Looking at the injury history of a squad is important. Our role is to minimise them. So far we have succeeded in doing that, but I am not surprised that there is a moment when there are several injuries. We need every player, the whole squad. The medical department works at the highest level. We always have to look at the injury history of the players.”
On the upcoming winter…
“Right now I’m very happy that we have a winter break because there won’t be a summer break. It’s important to have a certain number of days to recover, not only physically but also mentally. We have that in the Bundesliga. In England, the teams have a lot of games during the winter, that’s tradition.”
On how he evaluated his time at the club so far…
“You would have to ask me on 1st January, when I’ve had time to think about it. So far I’ve only been focused on football. I have great respect for the tradition and size of the club. I’ve mainly been concerned with the 25 guys in the first team. We’re normal people and we work hard. I feel good. If that’s good for the fans, it’s good for me too.”
On Mainz 05…
“Mainz have done very well since the cup match against us. They have been very stable defensively, except for their last game against Wolfsburg – that was a bit crazy what happened there. [… ] We have a lot of respect for the opponent and know that there are no easy games. We have to deliver, but we always have confidence in the squad.”
