Italian Serie A football outfit, Juventus, has been hit with a huge 15-point penalty due to untrue accounting following an appeal hearing at the Italian Football Federation.

 According to Al Jazeera:

Juventus were accused of using capital gains – the positive difference between purchase and sale values net of amortisation and write-downs – from a series of player exchanges in which little or no money passed between clubs.

The Italian top flight club denied any wrongdoing and was initially cleared by the sport court in April, 2022.

However, after the Federation collected papers from the Turin prosecutors from a different criminal investigation into the finances of Juventus, an appeal was made.

Juventus, a record 36-time champions of Italy, with 20 games remaining to play this season, were third in this season’s Serie A amassing 37 points, 10 points behind leaders SSC Napoli.

After being hit with the 15-point penalty on Friday, Juventus dropped to tenth spot, and this could mean missing out in next season’s Uefa Champions League.
