English Premier League: Leeds 3-0 Chelsea – Mendy’s error triggers sensational outcome, other games and results

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said in his post-match comments that his side “lost it in the first 20 minutes”, and they “had enough chances to be goals up but “gave two goals away”, which was “totally cheap and unnecessary”.

Leeds United breezed through Chelsea 3-0 in a Premier League match on Sunday 21 at the Elland Road.

Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy’s error paved the way for the hosts to clinch a cleansheet against their visitors at home.

Mendy’s howler helped Brendan Aaronson to net the opener for Leeds United in the 33rd minute. Aaronson dispossessed the Blues shot stopper to find the back of the net.

Rodrigo extended the lead with his head for the Peacocks just four minutes after the opener to make it two goals to nil in favour of the hosts.

Tuchel’s misery heightened when new addition Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off the pitchfor a second bookable foul.

Jesse Marsch’ men marched further ahead in the 69th minute when Jack Harrison sealed victory for Leeds United with the third goal from close-range.

“I think we lost it in the first 20 minutes,” said Tuchel.

“We had enough chances to be one or two goals up but then we lost the discipline. We gave two goals away, totally cheap and unnecessary. After that, the game was almost done because you lift the spirit, the belief.

“Everyone sees the mistake, it is a huge mistake in a crucial time of the match. He is the one who is most disappointed but it has cost us a lot. The body language, even in the 10 minutes before, it was not like it was in the last match, that is how I felt it.”

With this outcome, Marsch’ Leeds United have continued their good start to the 2022/23 English Premier League season, accumulating seven points by winning two game and earning one draw after three encounters.
