The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) had filed application for the live coverage of the court proceedings of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
On Monday, at the proceeding in Abuja, Justice Tsammani, said, the application by the PDP and LP lacked merit.
The panel decided unanimously that the order sought by the petitioner was not within the scope of the petition.
The panel added, live coverage of proceedings is not provided for in any law.
The court is created by the constitution and operates under the law by the Court of Appeal as well as it was created to hear and determine the petitions before it and cannot act as a vanguard, the panel stated.
The panel said, the court is created to find out the truth and should be allowed to do so.
Justice Tsammani said, the request has the capability to turn the court into a market place or a stadium and that must not be allowed for now.
