Fruit of the Spirit – Galatians 5:22-23 – “Goodness…against such there is no law” |
- Longsuffering: This is also called Forbearance or Patience. It is very scarce in our world of today that is fast-paced, where everyone wants to grab what they want, when they want it. The shocking part of the whole thing, is that, even believers are losing that sense of longsuffering /patience these days, they too don’t want to wait for God’s time. However, the Holy Spirit has a massive, never-stopping supply of longsuffering/patience to the hearts of Christians at those times when it is highly needed. Ephesians 4:2 – “With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;”
- Gentleness: The ERV Version of the Bible calls it Kindness. One shows kindness out of Love. A Christian treats other with kindness, compassion and forgiveness when the Holy Spirit develops Love in his heart. Love is what drives the other eight Fruit of the Spirit. When Love is firmly rooted in the life of a Christian, it becomes easy for the Christian to exhibit the other Fruit of the Spirit. Ephesians 4:32 – “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
- Goodness: This means one living life with good morals and intentions, and doing good to one another. This Fruit of the Spirit has to do with action. The true feature of godliness is producing the Fruit of Goodness. The actions of the Christian is powerful and attractive in such a way that it pulls people to Jesus Christ. Galatians 6:10 – “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
The secret to ensuring the Holy Spirit can grow the Fruit of the character of Christ in one’s life has been revealed by Paul in Galatians 5:25 which says, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” This means trusting and following the lead of the Holy Spirit.
