According to the former Governor of Anambra State, “the sports men and women, some of who represented Nigeria at the Olympics in Canada, 47 years ago, and the 1980 Green Eagles team, contributed greatly to the growth and development of the sports sector in Nigeria.”

“As I have always maintained, people like these who have made positive impacts in their areas of specialty deserve to be honoured by the government as against the present practice of honouring those who contribute to the nation’s retrogression.
“In the New Nigeria, we will not only build a conducive nation with facilities for people to develop their skills, but will also celebrate those individuals and groups, who through painstaking efforts and dedication, are able to distinguish themselves through various achievements.
