Niger Republic: Former President Bazoum to be charged with high treason – Junta

An announcement by the Military Junta of Niger, has revealed, there are plans to prosecute deposed President Mohamed Bazoum, for high treason and undermining national security.

This is the newest sign that the Junta has the intention to push back pressure from the international community to return power to President Bazoum.

President Bazoum has been held in the basement of his Palace since the coup staged by the military three weeks ago.

According to Bazoum’s doctor, Mr Bazoum was in “good spirits” despite being held in “difficult” conditions.

Via a statement read out on State TV, the Junta said, “the deposed president and his local and foreign accomplices for high treason and undermining the internal and external security of Niger”.

Further details were not given by the Junta.
