“Have mercy on me, wash me thoroughly” – Psalm 51:1-2 |
Whenever a Christian commits a sin, the spirit of guilt is let loose by the devil. The mission of this spirit of guilt is to tear the Christian down as well as break his confidence in God.
Also, this spirit of guilt create feelings of separation and accusation. As a result, the Christian feels lost and abandoned by God.
Matthew 18:21-22 says: “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” – This is ‘The Parable Of The Unmerciful Servant’, you can read through to verse 35.
The above scripture, Jesus answered Peter “forgive seventy times seven” if a “brother sin against me”. If Jesus preached about forgiving ourselves this much, then, how much more is He ready and willing to forgive us when we ask Him through prayer.
I will share five (5) Bible scriptures that should encourage us to ask for forgiveness from God after we commit sin.
Guilt will do more damage to the Christian than the actual sin committed. The devil uses sin as the bait to get the Christian into the trap called guilt.
To really overcome sin, one must master how to overcome the guilt that follows that sin.
Here are five (5) Bible scriptures that should encourage us to believe in Divine Forgiveness:
- Psalm 103:10-12: “He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”
- Psalm 51:1-2: “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”
- 1 John 1:7-10: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
- Luke 23:34: “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” Here, Jesus even prayed and asked God for mercy for those that brought death upon Him by crucifixion. That shows how much the mercy of God abound.
- Matthew 6:14-15: “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
