Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), has called on leaders to tackle conflicts within the continent as well as condemned a series of coups in some African countries.

The AUC Chair made the call on the first day of the two-day African Union (AU) Summit.
The unrest in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the war in Sudan are at the top of the agenda of the African bloc.
Other important topics to talk about are the fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants, known as, Hamas; poverty, climate change and education.
The AU Summit is being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Mahamat, in his remarks to delegates at the summit expressed his frets concerning a “litany of difficulties” facing the region.
The AUC Chair said, Sudan was “bruised, torn, sinking into chaos” from a war that has been raging since 2023, adding, Libya was divided and exposed to foreign interference, and the Sahel region was facing a hazardous power vacuum.
Mahamat said, “Africa cannot remain arms folded and not work to promote genuine peace in the region.”
