He added, “Country first, Party second”.
Keir Starmer, Leader of the Labour Party emerged Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) after a huge victory over Rishi Sunak, Leader of the Conservative Party in the UK General Election 2024 which held on Thursday 4 July, 2024.
Starmer said: “Country first, party second.
I held my first Cabinet meeting this morning. My government is ready to serve the people of Britain.”
He said, he will make tough decisions and “make them early”.
The UK PM also criticized the Prison system which he described as “broken”, however, adds, there is no “overnight solution” to the shortage of prison spaces in the UK.
Meanwhile, Sunak who earlier said he will resign as Leader of the Conservative Party following his loss to Starmer, has said, he will stay on as head of the Party until plans are in place to choose who succeeds him.
