World Economic Forum 2025: VP Shettima advocates for full implementation of AfCFTA with target to boost Africa’s economy to $29 trillion by 2050

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, joined other world leaders to advocate for the full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (@AfCFTA), with the aim to boost the economy of Africa to $29 trillion by 2050.

This happened during a forum of Friends of AfCFTA on Wednesday 22 January, 2025 on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2025 which is ongoing in Davos, Switzerland.

According Shettima: “Vice President 

@KashimSM has joined other world leaders in advocating for the full implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (@AfCFTA), with a target to boost Africa’s economy to $29 trillion by 2050.


He reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to spearhead the AfCFTA and leverage the market potential of the initiative for digital transformation and the economic integration of the African continent.


Meanwhile, the President of the World Economic Forum (@wef), Børge Brende, highlighted the transformative potential of the AfCFTA, projecting that its full implementation could increase Africa’s economy to $29 trillion by 2050.


“Senator @KashimSM and other global leaders affirmed their nations’ commitments on Wednesday during a forum of Friends of AfCFTA, held on the sidelines of the ongoing 2025 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (@wef) in Davos, Switzerland.”
