Also, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) warned, residents in the coastal State of Florida should not hesitate to “leave immediately if evacuation orders are given.”
Hurricane Milton is coming just some days after Hurricane Helene struck Florida alongside other coastal States in the US.
According to the White House: “In preparation for Hurricane Milton, President Biden this morning approved a pre-landfall emergency declaration for the State of Florida, and the Administration is taking extensive action to preposition federal personnel and assets before the storm makes landfall.
“FEMA is supporting the State of Florida to speed up debris removal from Hurricane Helene in the Tampa region in advance of Milton’s landfall, and is surging additional resources to the area.
“FEMA is providing all flexibility available for reimbursement for debris removal, and the State of Florida should take whatever action is required to speed up debris removal before Milton’s landfall.
“State-run debris management sites are open 24 hours a day, and contracted trucks can take debris to those sites around the clock.
Additionally, the Governor of Florida has activated 4,000 State Active Duty National Guard, many of whom will help with debris removal.
“FEMA has mobilized three search and rescue teams from California in order to avoid diverting resources from North Carolina.
Further, the agency has also mission assigned the @USCG and @DeptofDefense, including @USACEHQ, to additionally prepare for search and rescue missions.
“FEMA is also employing federal assets from the Departments of Justice, Interior, and Homeland Security, which are providing helicopters and personnel to support search and rescue.
“The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is flying Hurricane Hunters into Milton to gather data and help hone predictions of the storm’s track and timing.
“And FEMA has been coordinating closely with Tampa Mayor Jane Castor’s team ahead of FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell’s visit to Tampa today, where she will meet with state and local officials and continue to lead the on-the-ground preparations ahead of landfall.
“FEMA has sufficient funding to support the response to Hurricane Milton and continued response to Hurricane Helene – including funding to support first responders and provide immediate assistance to disaster survivors.
“The Administration has been in touch with the State of Florida and localities along the likely path of impact to ensure needs are met in advance of the storm, and the federal government is fully prepared to support affected communities wherever and whenever needed.”
