‘Osun is coming with strength’ – Governor Adeleke after winning re-election

Ademola Adeleke, Executive Governor of Osun State, will serve a second term after emerging victorious in the Osun State Governorship Election which was conducted on Saturday 15 August, 2026.

Adeleke has been announced as winner of the Osun State Governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), putting to an end weeks of fierce campaigns.

Joshua Ogunwole, Returning Officer for the Osun governorship election, announced the results at the INEC Collation Centre in Osogbo in the early hours of Sunday 16 August, 2026.

Adeleke polled “511,067” votes to retain his position as Governor of Osun State, and will run for another four (4) years.

“Thank you Osun State”, Governor Adeleke posted on X in celebration of his victory in the exercise.

He further posted: “Osun is coming with strength”.

Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party (AP) polled 511,067 votes, while Bola Oyebamiji of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), polled 444,811 and 17,180 votes respectively.

Prior to announcement of results, Adeleke had sent a message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his “good office” to sternly warn the heads of security agencies deployed to protect the people of Osun State.

The Governor also pleaded with the President to keep to his commitment that the votes of the people of Osun will count, as well as, the results of the election will reflect their “genuine choice”.

Governor Adeleke’s message reads: “Dear @officialABAT,

“It is imperative that you use your good office to issue a clear warning to the heads of security agencies deployed to protect the good people of Osun State and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

“Reports of attempts to hijack or disrupt collation centres by desperate and rejected politicians across the state are deeply concerning and unacceptable.

“I therefore implore you to reiterate the commitment made to the people of Osun State that their votes will count and that the outcome of this election will reflect their genuine choice.

“The people of Osun State have spoken with one voice, and their voices must be heard. Their votes must be protected, and their mandate must be respected.”

Ademola Adeleke has been serving as Governor of Osun State since November, 2022 after defeating Adegboyega Oyetola in the 2022 Osun Governorship Election. He won the election as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
