Congratulatory messages have flooded social media following Spain’s triumph at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
2027 Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, described Spain’s victory as a “gallant finish”; he said, such “outstanding” outcomes must be “replicated” across all sectors of Nigeria.
On Sunday 19 July, 2026, Spain downed Argentina 1-0 in the final at MetLife Stadium in New York, United States (US), to become the new Kings of the World.
In his congratulations to the La Roja, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), said, football is a “physical activity” that “protects your heart and mind”.
President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog, congratulated the La Roja and King of Spain, His Majesty King Felipe VI, following Spain’s victory in New York, US.
The Israeli President prayed for his country to qualify for the next World Cup.
Herzog also congratulated Argentina for their “extraordinary” run through to the final of the tournament. He said, Sports has the “power” to pull together people from different parts of the world in “harmony and joy”.
