President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his gratitude to the security forces following the rescue of children and teachers kidnapped by Ansaru terrorists.
After more than fifty (50) days in captivity, the children and teachers regained their freedom.
In a statement on Friday 10 July, 2026, the President said, the country has “reason” to be thankful as they were all rescued “alive and unharmed”; he disclosed, they were freed with “no ransom paid”.
The statement signed by the President himself reads: “Tonight, our nation has reason to give thanks.
“The children and teachers abducted by Ansaru terrorists in Oyo State have been rescued by our security forces, alive and unharmed. No ransom was paid. No concession was made.”
According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, “Troops rescued 44 kidnapped pupils and teachers in a successful joint security operation in Oyo State”.
The rescue happened following “an intelligence-led carefully planned and executed operations, on 10 July 2026”, the Nigerians Army disclosed in a Statement.
The President hailed the security forces for their “courage and professionalism”, which made the rescue “possible”.
He issued a stern warning to those with the mission to “spread fear through terror”, that Nigeria “will pursue you relentlessly”; the President assured, the government will ensure the protection of Nigerians and defend our communities until “peace and security” reign in the country.
The children and teachers were kidnapped on 15 May, 2026 by terrorists from Schools in Oriire in Oyo State.
For their families, the wait for their release has been excruciating.
The Statement further reads: “I salute every officer and operative whose courage, discipline, and professionalism made this possible.
“To those who seek to spread fear through terror, know that the Nigerian state will pursue you relentlessly. We will protect our people, defend our communities, and never relent until peace and security prevail across our country.”
