Official: Nathan Ake has left Manchester City to join Fenerbahçe

Dutch defender, Nathan Ake, has officially parted company with Premier League Club, Manchester City, and joined Turkish Süper Lig Club, Fenerbahçe, subject to international clearance.

The move draws the curtain on a heavily successful six-year relationship with Manchester City.

The Dutchman, who moved to the Etihad Stadium in August 2020 from AFC Bournemouth, recorded 177 appearances in six (6) brilliant seasons with the Cityzens.

Ake carted a whopping twelve (12) honours at City which consists of four (4) Premier League titles, one (1) UEFA Champions League, one (1) FIFA Club World Cup, two (2) FA Cups, two (2) League Cups, Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup.

The centre-back suffered injuries during his first two (2) seasons at Etihad, however, he still contributed to the Club’s successes as the Blues won the Premier League titles consecutively in 2020/21 and 2021/22, and, the Carabao Cup after victory at Wembley over Tottenham Hotspur.

Ake played a big role in the historic treble-winning side in 2022/23, featuring forty-one (41) times for the Cityzens in all competitions.

According to the Club’s official website, Ake described his six-year stay at Manchester City as a “privilege”, expressing gratitude for being a part of the Blues, he called “special”.

He said, he has improved “so much” at the Etihad both as a player and a person and thanked the Club for all the time he has spent with City.

Ake said, he will never forget the “memories”, especially the treble, adding, he is “proud” of everything he has achieved with the Club together.

“It’s been a privilege to represent Manchester City over the past six years and I’m so grateful to have been part of a special team”, Ake said.

He added: “I’ve grown so much here – as a player and a person and I’m thankful for the time I’ve had at the club.

“I’ll always cherish the memories, particularly of winning the Treble, being part of all four Premier League titles in a side that made history and triumphing in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in my final season at the Club.

“While I’m moving on, I’m very proud of everything we’ve achieved together and City will always be special to me.”

Huho Viana, Director of Football, said: “There’s no doubt that Nathan has been a key part of our success over the past few years.

“We would like to thank Nathan for his many contributions and we wish him the very best in his next chapter.”

In its welcome message, Fenerbahçe wrote: “You were part of so many special moments and earned the love and respect of everyone at City.

“Now it’s time for new memories.

“Welcome to Fenerbahçe, Nathan.”
