Official: Michael Carrick appointed as Manchester United permanent head coach

Premier League club, Manchester United, have announced, Michael Carrick will continue as the Club’s men’s first team head coach.

Carrick put pen to paper on a contract that will keep at Old Trafford as manger until 2028.

In January, Carrick returned to the Theatre of Dreams as manager and clinched the Premier League Manager Of The Month award following triumphs over top rivals, Manchester City and Arsenal, in his first two (2) games in control.

His coaching heroics helped Manchester United gain qualification to the Uefa Champions League 2026/27 after clinching eleven (11) victories from sixteen (16) top flight encounters, amassing the highest points tally in the Premier League since his arrival.

Carrick, a former Manchester United midfielder, remains one of the most decorated and successful players of the Club, winning five (5) Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two (2) League Cups, the Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

According to the official website of the Club, at his post-signing press conference, Manchester United head coach, Michael Carrick, said: “From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United.

“Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.

“Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.

“Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”

Manchester United Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, said: “Michael has thoroughly earned the opportunity to continue leading our men’s team.

“Michael’s achievements in leading the club back to the Champions League should not be understated. He has forged a strong bond with the players and can be proud of the winning culture at Carrington and in the dressing room, which we are continuing to build.”
