2027 Elections: Obafemi Hamzat accepts APC nomination as Guber candidate for Lagos Governorship Election

Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, has accepted the nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Lagos Governorship Election.

On Thursday, Hamzat made known via X, he accepted the nomination with “deep gratitude”.

Telling his story, Hamzat said, his “journey” kicked off in Mushin, a densely populated local government area in Lagos State, with “hard work”. Over the last twenty (20) years, the Deputy Governor said he has basked in the privilege of serving the Southwestern State in various “capacities” with leaders he described as “exceptional”.

Hamzat announced: “Today, I accepted the nomination of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Lagos Governorship Election with deep gratitude.”

He said: “I am truly humbled by this honour and I thank Almighty Allah, our party leaders, and every member who has placed their trust in me.”

He further said: “My journey started in Mushin, shaped by hard work, service, and the belief that government must improve the lives of ordinary people.

“Over the last two decades, I have had the privilege of serving Lagos in different capacities alongside exceptional leaders who laid the foundation for the progress our state enjoys today.”

The Deputy Governor said, his decision is coming from the “simple question” – “how do we build a Lagos that works better for everyone?”. He said, he will run and ensure he serve all Lagosians irrespective of who your are “whether you are a fisherman in Badagry or a corporate executive in Victoria Island”.

He added, the investment by the State in critical sectors such as transportation, education, jobs and more must not stop, and, Lagos must be built in such a way that “no one is left behind”.

Hamzat said: “My decision to run comes from one simple question: how do we build a Lagos that works better for everyone? I am running to serve all Lagosians. Whether you are a fisherman in Badagry, a trader in Mile 12, a mechanic in Yaba or a corporate executive in Victoria Island, this government will work for you.

“We must continue to invest in transportation, jobs, education, healthcare, security, and opportunities that give people hope and dignity. We must build a Lagos where no one is left behind and where every child can dream beyond the circumstances they were born into.”

The Deputy Governor expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Governance Advisory Council for their “support and belief”.

He also specially thanked his wife Oluremi, alongside, his children for their “unwavering” support and sacrifice.

Hamzat said: “I thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Her Excellency First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governance Advisory Council and our dedicated party members across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs for their support and belief in this journey.

“A special thank you to my wife, Oluremi, and our children for their unwavering support and sacrifice.”

He made known, he is aware that the stake in 2027, saying, they are “high”, however, with the necessary partnership “we will keep Lagos moving forward and continue building a future we can all be proud of”.
